Behavior
Hazel has a gentle nature and prefers watching rather than joining in. She is particularly fascinated by gardening and can often be found inspecting flower beds, vegetable patches and compost heaps in search of beetles, worms and the occasional unsuspecting snail. While insects make up most of her diet, she has developed an unfortunate fondness for the tender leaves of freshly planted lettuce.
Favorite Hiding Places
Fence posts overlooking busy gardens, sunny corners of vegetable patches, and anywhere she can observe humans without being observed herself.
Known Misdemeanors
Frequently blamed for "snail damage" in vegetable gardens. Experienced gardeners have begun to notice that the bite marks are rather larger—and considerably neater—than those left by ordinary snails.
Things to Avoid
Planting crisp young lettuce without checking the nearest fence post first. If you happen to meet Hazel's gaze, remain calm and avoid sudden movements. She'll almost certainly disappear before you can say hello... though she'll be back tomorrow to see what you're planting next.
