Berry Basil
Identification
Small, leaf-green and exceptionally well camouflaged, Berry Basil is almost impossible to spot amongst vegetable gardens during the summer months. His scales blend perfectly with strawberry leaves and garden foliage, so sightings are usually limited to a brief rustle in the patch or the suspicious feeling that someone is watching while you're picking berries.
Behavior
Unlike many Wingatui dragons, Basil has little interest in flowers. His attention is firmly fixed on the vegetable garden, particularly anything edible. While he will occasionally sample peas or the odd cherry tomato, his true weakness is perfectly ripe, sun-warmed strawberries. He has remarkable patience and will quietly wait until a berry reaches absolute perfection before taking one enormous bite.
Favorite Hiding Places
Beneath strawberry leaves, amongst runner beans, under lettuces, and anywhere lush summer vegetables provide plenty of cover.
Known Misdemeanors
Frequently blamed for strawberries with suspiciously large bites missing from them. Slugs are often accused, but experienced gardeners know the difference. If the damage appears during the day, and only the ripest berries have been sampled, Berry Basil is almost certainly responsible. Curiously, he never seems interested in the sour ones.
Things to Avoid
Leaving a bowl of freshly picked strawberries unattended in the garden. If you turn your back for even a moment, you may discover one or two have mysteriously vanished. Berry Basil insists that sharing is simply part of good gardening etiquette.
